Our First Date
It was July 26, 2003, a warm summer evening filled with anticipation and nerves as Evan came to pick me up for our very first date. My dad, as protective as ever, insisted on meeting him before we could head out. Looking back, I'm sure it was a bit intimidating, but Evan handled it with grace, winning my dad's approval with his genuine demeanor.
Our destination was the Twilight Criterium in Downtown Boise, an event that perfectly blended Evan's love for the outdoors and biking. We arrived amid the buzz of the races and settled down for dinner at Louis Italian Restaurant, strategically located in the heart of the action. I opted for a salad, nervously hoping not to spill anything on myself in front of this charming man.
Over dinner, we engaged in lively conversation, asking each other questions and sharing stories that quickly eased my initial nervousness. Afterward, we strolled through downtown, immersed in the excitement of the bike races, and continued to learn more about each other. It was during these moments that I began to realize how easy it was to be myself around Evan.
As the evening drew to a close, we walked back to the truck, and in a moment that could only happen to me, I managed to slip in mud and ended up with a messy foot. I was mortified, but Evan's reassuring demeanor and his ability to laugh it off made me feel at ease.
Evan dropped me off at home, and although the kiss he had promised me after a rock climbing adventure didn't happen that night, I couldn't wait for the next opportunity to see him again. Despite the muddy mishap, our first date was a memorable beginning to a journey that would lead us to many more adventures and milestones together.
